Diamond Bank Plc has announced the appointment of Thomas Barry to its board of directors.
Mr. Barry, an American national, would function in a non-executive capacity.
A press statement issued by the bank states that Mr. Barry brings decades of experience in the financial services sector onto the board of Diamond Bank Plc.
The statement reads in part, ”We are very happy to have Mr. Barry join the board of Diamond Bank. With an enviable record of leadership in companies in the financial services industry globally, we believe his appointment to our board would impact our functioning as a bank positively. This is a further illustration of our corporate vision to be a leading financial services institution with the best people providing unequalled customer experience and delivering superior customer value.”
Mr. Barry is the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Zephyr Management Company (Zephyr), an investment company he founded in 1994. Prior to that, he functioned as the President and CEO of Rockefeller & Co, the investment management branch of the Rockefeller Family between 1983 and 1993. He also worked with T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. from 1969 to 1982, where he was President of T. Rowe Price New Horizons Fund and Director of Research.
He is an alumnus of Yale University where he bagged an MBA in 1966. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and he found the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (EMPEA) where he is a director as well as the Chair of the Finance Committee.
Thomas Barry equally functions as a director or trustee on the board of several blue chip companies. These organisations include TechnoServe, Trikle Up, Kucetekela Foundation, and ACCION International. He is also the Chairman of Kingdom Zephyr Africa Management Company, which has offices in Johannesburg, Accra, Lagos, London and New York.
