DIAMOND BANK SPONSORS VVF SURGERIES, DONATE EQUIPMENT TO FISTULA CENTRES

Diamond Bank has demonstrated its commitment to the total health and wellbeing of women in Nigeria by sponsoring medical surgeries for 15 young women suffering from Vesico Vagina Fistula (VVF). The Bank has also concluded arrangement to donate medical equipment to selected fistula centres across the country.

VVF are holes found in women resulting from the breakdown in the tissue between the vaginal wall and the bladder or rectum caused by unrelieved obstructed labour. The consequences of such damage are urinary or faecal incontinence and related conditions; and according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) the condition is “the single most dramatic aftermath of neglected childbirth." A 2008 research by NDHS show that Nigeria has the highest prevalence of VVF in the world with approximately 400,000–800,000 women living with the condition in the country and about 20,000 new cases occurring annually, with 90 percent of these going untreated.

In a press release by the Bank, Ayona Trimnell, Head, Corporate Communications said that one of the core components of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), is the high premium placed on the health of women and the quest to see that as many as could be helped are captured in the scheme. According to her, the initiative by Diamond Bank to elevate the health of women was borne out of the need to reduce maternal mortality rate in the country by eliminating this avoidable medical condition known as Vesico Vagina Fistula (VVF) which has compromised the lives and marital destinies of thousands of young ladies over the years. The initiative also sensitizes women ensuring that they are not just only aware of and internalize quality health habits, but that they are also able to make better informed choices concerning their health and that of their partners. The Bank is partnering with Extended Hands Charity, a non-governmental organization.

According to Trimnell, “the initiative commences this October and involves helping the women and young girls particularly in Ilorin, Kwara State”.

Commenting further, Trimnell said, that the focus of Diamond Bank especially in women’s health and wellbeing, involves the provision of basic health care services to women in rural areas and empowering them economically in the area of agriculture and trading.

“This unique approach will not only ensure that women are able to make better informed choices concerning their wellbeing but will also ensure that they have the economic power to improve their living standards.’’

HELPING YOU & YOUR CHILD SUCCEED IN THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR!

1)    Routines are important- Not just important, routines play a critical role in the lives of parents and school children. As they prepare to go back to school slowly ease them into the routines of waking up early, bath time, breakfast and school runs. Also make sure you stick to a strict bed time and turn off any distractions (games, T.V and loud chatter). Since parents have to wake up so much earlier these days, early bedtimes will ensure your children sleep longer and get a good night’s rest.

2)    Be organized- A scattered parent does not a productive child make. Being organized is the key to a productive day for both you and your child. Always set out clothing and pack school bags and even your bags & work stuff the night before. Make judicious use of your weekends to launder and set out uniforms and clothing for the entire week ahead of time. This also applies to you as a parent. Plan out your clothing if you can during the weekend, so all you need to do is pick up your phone, bags and keys on the way out. It may also help to get up very early at least an hour ahead of the children so there’s plenty of time for you to finish up preparations.

3)    Have a lunch box routine or time table- Shop ahead and in bulk for lunch box supplies. Biscuits, fruits, juice and packaged food are better bought in bulk both and will save you both money and time.

4)    Label everything- Minimize incidences of lost or misplaced items by labelling your child’s school clothing and supplies. If you are unable to get customized labels or stickers, masking tape and a pen will work just fine for plastic items and permanent marker for the underside of school clothing

5)    Schedule a meeting with your child’s class teacher- It is not enough to know that your child’s teachers name is Mrs. Williams. Schedule a meeting with her and get to know her personally. Show interest in them as well as your child’s welfare. A good relationship with your child’s teacher is a necessary ingredient in your child’s educational success and overall wellbeing.

6)    Talk to your child- No matter how late you get back from work, ensure you speak to your child and ask them how their day went at school. Show genuine interest and ask questions about their friends and the day’s events. If by the time you get home they are asleep, ensure you have the conversation in the morning as they prepare to go to school or during the school run.

7)    Review Home work together- This is very important but unfortunately most parents are unable to do this religiously every day because of busy schedules. Learn together and don’t be afraid to make mistakes and let your child correct you. It only adds to the fun and joy of learning together.

8)    Do not underestimate extra-curricular activities- Let your child choose an extra-curricular activity they really enjoy and participate in it at least once a week. Extra-curricular activities help build social skills and self-esteem and ensures your child is well-rounded and happy.

9)    Keep records of school bills and receipts- Don’t throw away invoices or receipts when you get them, open a file for school expenses. This helps you as a parent keep an eye on your budget and expenditure.

10)    Find out about school discounts for fee payments- Most schools give hefty discounts to parents who are able to pay the terms fees in full or by a specific date. Take advantage of this if you can, you may not realize it now but you will be making huge savings on fees. The Diamond School Fees loan can help ease the burden of school fees payments with low interest rates and quick disbursement.

Diamond Bank, MTN Launch Diamond Y'ello Account

Leading retail bank, Diamond Bank PLC, has launched an innovative banking product, Diamond Y’ello, as part of its financial inclusion programme to reach the unbanked.

The Diamond Y’ello Account (DYA), which is run in partnership with mobile telecommunications giant, MTN Nigeria, is a hybrid account that offers the over 58 million MTN subscribers a fusion of financial services and telecoms incentives such as money transfer and withdrawal, account statementsconfirmation andairtime purchase amongst a host of available features and benefits.

Speaking at the launch of the account, Dr Alex Otti, GMD/CEO, Diamond Bank PLC, said the Diamond Y’ello Account is part of the bank’s strategic programme to reach the unbanked population with innovative and easily accessible financial solutions.

According to Dr. Otti: “The Nigerian banking industry is over a hundred years old, but can only boast of only about 40 million bank accounts. In the 14years of mobile telephony in Nigeria, the telcos have grown a robust subscriber base of 120 million customers and still counting. That is why we decided to partner with one of the trusted and most extensive networks to bring our banking services closer to people who would like to bank with us but are limited by challenges within their environment.

Explaining the rationale, Dr. Otti explains further: “What we have done is to make banking more accessible to Nigerians. To open a Diamond Y’ello account, a customer only needs to have a registered MTN line and by dialing the short code *710#, the subscriber gets a full NUBAN account number delivered by SMS to his mobile phone within minutes”.

The Diamond Y’ello Account is open to all. The Youth and Mass Market segments of the MTN subscriber base as well as the unbanked and under-banked subscribers are especially invited to take advantage of the favourable account opening requirements and convenient features of the service.”

This product is simple and accessible to all customers on our network.” Lending his support to the partnership, Dr. Pascal Dozie, Founder, Diamond Bank Plc and Chairman, MTN Nigeria, said that Diamond Y’ello is a hybrid account produced by two outstanding companies in their separate industries.

He said: The partnership between Diamond Bank PLC and MTN Nigeria is in support of government policies. The Diamond Y’ello Account will strengthen the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria. It will also provide gainful employment for Nigerians and other stakeholders.”

L-R: Nnamdi Ezeigbo, Chief Executive Officer, SLOT Systems Limited; Aishah Ahmad, Head, Retail Banking, Diamond Bank Plc; Ogechi Chuma Otteh, CEO, One Centre Limited; and Nkem Okoro, Regional Manager, Festac  Region, Diamond Bank Plc at the Diamond Bank 58th  MSME BusinessxXpress Seminar held in Lagos recently

Diamond Bank Plc has urged entrepreneurs of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to internalise the values of financial discipline and strict corporate financial management in the running of their respective companies, in order to sustain the rapid growth and development of the sector.

The Bank stated during its 58th Edition of the Diamond BusinessXpress Series in Lagos that the only way that MSMEs could scale the current economic headwinds, gain the confidence and active support of the financial services sub-sector, is to manage and grow the finances of their respective businesses by adhering strictly to high corporate standards.

Aisha Ahmad, Head, Retail Directorate of the Bank told MSME stakeholders at the event that financial stability and sustainable growth for entrepreneurs in MSME in the country is not achievable if standards of financial management is lowered, pointing that most MSMEs are likely to have chronic financial problems when personal financial discipline is relegated.    .
“The BusinessXpress Seminar is the initiative of Diamond Bank Plc, which aims to cater for the business and financial well-being of our customers and indeed, interested players in the MSME sector of the economy…. Sustainable growth and development of the sector has a lot to do with the individual’s financial discipline and management of the businesses. When standard is not followed, problems are bound to come up and stifle the growth of the business.”

Drawing from their personal experiences, the resource persons took turns to shed light on the benefits of adhering to financial management principles and maintaining high standard of financial discipline.

The CEO of Slot Systems Limited, Nnamdi Ezeigbo, stated that building trust with target customers and business partners is a key factor in growing any business. According to him, adapting to the changing business environment and ensuring that the taste and demand of the customer is met, are very fundamental to sustainable business growth.

He said: “One of the factors that we took very seriously while growing the Slot brand was the adaptability factor and for us, this simply means understanding our market, our operating environment (the culture) and what exactly the consumers want at any particular time. You need to identify when consumers’ tastes change so as to address the attendant challenges.”
Reiterating Ezeigbo, Ogechi Chuma-Otteh, MD/CEO, One Centre Providence, stressed the importance of keeping a good working relationship with banking officers to enable easy access to useful information and financial products that would help in growing one’s business.
“Diamond Bank is an SME friendly bank. My banking officer is involved in my business and plays an advisory role when it comes to managing my finances. So if your bank is not doing anything to help grow your business, please I advise you, dump them.”

Adegboyega Adebajo, CEO West Atlantic Resources and Equity House (WARE House) Ltd, took participants through Nigeria’s business environment identifying crude oil sales, power sector reforms, stability of the new government and infrastructural development among others as the key drivers of Nigeria’s Gross domestic Product (GDP).

Other speakers at the event include Alexander Ibekwe, SME Segment Manager, MTN and Olusegun Sosimi, Assistant Director, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Diamond Bank has remained the leader in promoting MSME as the engine of sustainable growth and development in Nigeria’s economy. DIAMOND BANK UNVEILS BET5, OFFERS N15M GRANT TO SUCCESSFUL MSMES

Diamond Bank Plc has announce the launch of Season 5 of the Building Entrepreneurs Today (BET5) programme, a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative aimed at enhancing the productive strength of Nigerian entrepreneurs through capacity building.

The initiative, which is a core component of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), enables each of the businesses that presents outstanding performance to receive N3 million grant that would be injected into their respective operations for expansion and product consolidation.

According to the Bank’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ayona Trimnell, the initiative is aimed at assisting MSME stakeholders gain up-to-date knowledge of business management through rigorous training and mentorship, which will empower them to run their respective businesses successfully and remain competitive in the marketplace.

“Since 2010, we have partnered with the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of the Pan Atlantic University in training and nurturing Micro, Small and Medium Scale businesses under this annual capacity building and business education project which involves the training of fifty budding entrepreneurs over a period of six (6) months after which the top five (5) entrepreneurs are awarded Three Million Naira (N 3,000,000) grants to take their businesses to the next level. This initiative has contributed immensely in helping to refine and strengthen the business acumen of a pool of MSME operators as well as creating enduring wealth and employment in the country”.

According to Mrs. Trimnell, this year’s BET programme has been streamlined to focus mainly on Fashion and Lifestyle, Agriculture and Information and Communication Technology, pointing that the ripple effect of increased economic activity on these sectors has remained monumental on the economy.
